I have a little 'thing' for vintage sewing machines! I don't have a large collection but eight of the 12 sewing machines I have are vintage.
Most of them I bought on ebay and others locally from older women who no longer sew or have the room to house their machines.
I use one in particular for most of my piecing, and this weeks' Barbara Brackman's CW block was added to it efforts.
This is such a pretty block layout, I decided to go a little romantic with my fabric selection this week.
I thought I would showcase my machines over the next few months, so the first lady to make her debut is my darling 1958 Singer 99k. It is a 3/4 size machine (as apposed to the Featherweight which is 1/2 size).
I bought her from a lady in rural Victoria, she was in excellent condition although I did get her fully serviced and had all her wiring checked. This little lady did not have a light fitting at first but after a bit of scrounge around at a couple of local dealers I managed to find one with the correct light mounting.
All her decals are in reasonable condition too and she sews like a trooper, a gutsy wee lass!
I have also managed to collect the full range of attachments and original manual for this old dear too, although I must say I haven't tried most of them out yet!!
I haven't got very far putting the binding on my latest quilt as yet, so this is a sneak peek. A local lady did the long-arm quilting in a paisley design, it is fairly dense, but that's the way I like my quilting!
I have used a lot of very old pieces of reproduction fabric that I had lying around for a few years, and put the top together about 3-4 years ago. It is so nice that I will finally be able to enjoy these glorious scraps once again.
Hopefully by the time I post again I can show you the quilt entirely, binding and all!!!!
Hope you are all having a good week, keeping your fingers busy, unfortunately my fingers having been busy doing other work and not the sewing kind.....
Take it easy,
Merilyn

Some of those fabrics in your newly quilted quilt look very familiar! I really like the background.
I look forward to meeting all your sewing partners.
I agree you've chose some pretty romantic fabrics for the CW BOW.
12 sewing machines?? I say that it is A LOT!! Now if only you could be cloned, imagine the number of lovelies coming out of that studio!
Beautiful!!
I used my latest acquisition... a Singer 201K portable electric (1949) .... to make this block too! It was the first real sewing I had done on my "new" machine - it was so lovely to sew with and so quiet!
I can't wait to hear more about "ALL" of your machines!!
I don't feel so bad about owning 4 machines (including the overlocker) now. I look forward to meeting all your other machines.
I have dreams of owning a working treadle machine just so I can say that I know how to sew on one, but I think that will have to wait until we have a bigger house.
What a pretty machine. I love the ruffler attachments, they work wonderfully. Your fabric selections are great.
Looking forward to seeing more of your machines - - and the finished quilt.
She's a beauty. I recently acquired a featherweight, but she doesn't do much in the way of work. She just lounges on the table looking pretty.
Wonderful sewing machine. I have a thing with collecting childrens toy sewing machines. I also have a featherweight. All so special! I display them in my sewing room so I see them everyday.
Your fabric selections are lovely for your block and look forward to viewing your quilt and other vintage sewing machines.
Thank you for sharing. Carolyn :)
I can't believe that you have so many machines. Is that the secret to your beautiful work? Maybe I should be buying machines and not fabric!
What a lovely quilt! I can't wait to see the whole thing.
The sewing machine is so petite and adorable. What a fun collection!!
So is it 'cheaper' by the dozen to own and feed and care for a dozen sewing machines??? Do you spend alot of time each day trying to decide which one to use???? Now I do have 2 and one is an old singer--featherweight the white one in the case that was my mothers and then I have a new Singer and shortly I hope to own another one that does everything including cooking supper!!!!!!!!!lol
love the block by the way!!!
Hugs. Di and miss gracie
Love your Civil War block and the wonderful little machine. I grew up sewing on Mom's Singer 201 machine. It was a trooper.
Hello Merilyn, love your choice of fabrics for the CW block...your little Singer looks a treat...Warm Regards, Lyn
You are one lucky quilter to have been able to pick up this beautiful machine and all the attachments. Wish I had one....they are just so much fun to collect.
Wow Merilyn
I own 3 modernish and 1 very old tiny hand wheel machine, so way behind in the machine stakes. It just shows you, you don't need a modern machine to sew these lovely blocks. Yours are beautiful.

Back in the land of the 'Long White Cloud'.
(In more ways than one) :-)
She's lovely! I look forward to seeing your other machines in the coming months.
After reading all the posts about vintage sewing machines, I've been feeling the need to acquire one! Yours is very nice and appears to do a wonderful job stitching.
Your CW block looks so delicate with the pretty floral center. Just Beautiful!
What a gorgeous little Singer! Such a treasure to have found with all of the attachments.
Looking forward to seeing more of your machines in future posts.
